After another filling breakfast we did something that would make Mom proud. We made plans. We spent two hours with Aisling in the travel office booking accommodations for the next eight nights. We gave her out itinerary which she agreed was a good one – ok, so maybe a little patting ourselves on the back. She set us up in B&Bs across the country. Her partner then booked our rental car.
Steve got a haircut and I called Aasma before we started a mini pub crawl through Dun Laoghaire. We had a couple of pints at Googles, I mean Trader’s Wharf, while we were deciding what to do. We then headed down St. George’s Street to our first pub which was Dunphy’s where we saw the female version of Googles who we promptly named Googlette. It was an attractive good sized place with lots of wood. Ewe finished out pints and moved on.
Our next stop was O’Loughlin’s which was definitely a locals place. It was the cheapest pint at £1.75. We got a replay of the previous night’s match while we were there. To date, it was the best pisser – outside across the ally onto a back outer room.
Our next stop was at J. Smyth & Sons. The highlight there was just that the photo was taken from under a Lubrication sign. Down the street to the Cumberland Inn where the bartender was pleasant. He had to turn down a French girl who was looking for work.
It was then time to catch the train for the soccer matches. This train was not nearly as crowded as the one the previous day. There weren’t as many fans either. This was probably due to the weather. The first game wasn’t all that great with PSV winning when it went to PKs. Neither the shooters nor the keepers seemed to care very much. There second game was much more interesting. Newcastle pretty much dominated the play wining 2-0. If it wasn’t for Derry City’s keeper, the score would have been much worse. We had pretty good seats but decided to change them during halftime of the second game because we had some loud and obnoxious kids behind us.
We got back to Dun Laoghaire in no time via the train so we decided to continue our pub crawl. The first was Toby Jug which had an older crowd and felt like a hotel bar. We decided to drink a little faster and move on once a guy started playing guitar while a woman sang.
We walked across the street to Farrell’s which was on the second floor. We got some travel tips while there so we stayed for a couple. A guy told us to drive through the Wiklow Way and Glendalough on our way to Kilkenny. We also go the names of some pubs and restaurants.
The next stop was for some food. We found a place that served until 1:00 so we stopped in for some fist and chips. The fish wasn’t bad but was probably the greasiest I’ve ever had. This was our last stop as we were pretty wasted.
