After a short stay in the British Airways lounge, we boarded our red-eye flight to London.
The flight went smoothly and we couldn’t have been treated any better. We had a few hours to kill in Heathrow so we headed over to the Concorde Lounge for a little breakfast. Due to some weather issues in the London area, we departed a little behind schedule but made up time in flight. The eight-hour flight to Nairobi was long but we entertained ourselves watching movies and resting.
We arrived in Nairobi a little after 11:00 P.M. In case you hadn’t heard, quite a bit of the airport was destroyed in a fire about a year ago. As they rebuild, arrivals are processed in the bottom floor of the parking garage. After clearing immigration were driven to the Norfolk Hotel where we stayed for the night.
We had an early 6:00 A.M. pickup in order to make our flight to Mahe in the Seychelles. The short 15-minute ride back to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was highlighted by seeing giraffes in the distance as we approached the airport. We thought the early pickup was a little excessive since our flight wasn’t until 9:05 but we quickly learned why they recommended this. Upon arriving at the airport, we had to get into a line for luggage screening that was several hundred people long. Once clearing that, we waited in line to check in and then in another line to clear immigration. It ended up taking us two hours from the time we arrived to the time we were at the gate.
Our flight to Mahe was uneventful and the three-hour flight was short in comparison to our earlier flights. Luggage collection and clearing of customs and immigration went smoothly and our transportation was waiting for us as we exited. After a 30-minute ride, we finally arrived at our destination. All in all it was thirty-seven hours from the time we left our house to the time we arrived at the resort which included seventeen hours of flying. Some R&R is definitely in order.
