Another filling breakfast, this time no sausage or mystery pudding. We bathed and the said goodbye to the O’Brien’s. They were lovely people who treated us like family. Both of them made a point of wishing us well. Now for the long drive back to Dun Laoghaire. Luckily, the trip will take us primarily on major roads. We were making good time so we decided to take a little detour through Trim to see the castle that was used as York castle in Braveheart. We were a little bummed out when we found out that most of the castle was closed for renovations. We took a few photos and continued our drive. When we got close we just followed signs for Dun Laoghaire until we found N11. Then the fun began. We had a town map with pretty good detail. Unfortunately, Dun Laoghaire has decided not to bother with street signs in this section of town. We somehow found the rental office on the first try. No doubt due to Steve’s and my expert driving and navigation abilities. The couple we met at the office didn’t have as much success, telling us that it took them an hour and a half to find the place. When we checked back into the B&B we took it easy for a while because Steve wasn’t feeling well and I wasn’t exactly full of fire either. After a few trips to the loo, Steve decided to make a go of it. We hopped on the DART back to Tara Station in Dublin. Our first stop, once we found it, was Mulligan’s. They claim to pour the best pint outside of the brewery. It was better than some but I couldn’t say it was better than all others. The onset of rain had us don our jackets as we headed down Fleet St. We ducked into Bowe’s as a pit stop was needed. Steve tries a little bit of Irish hurling while we are there and tells me he has a little more room for Guinness now. Our last pub was The Palace. Another interesting men’s room. Above your head is a grate filled with opaque glass through which you can see the outlines of pedestrians walking above you head while you pee.
The stomach problems were getting the better of Steve so we headed home after grabbing a quick bite. It was probably good for me to get in early too since we had to get up for the ferry at 5:15.
